The journey from Johor to Melaka was unspectacular, passing many palm oil plantations on the way to the city. We were able to take a short river cruise, which gave us a nice overview of what there was to see. The old town with its many shops and small restaurants. The chocolate shop sold Swiss chocolate. Lunch at the Chinese restaurant was great, and after checking into the Swiss Heritage Hotel (which had nothing to do with Switzerland), we visited the Portuguese quarter. We had a beer by the river after work and then enjoyed traditional Malaysian cuisine with beef redang and nasi lemak. Tomorrow we are going to Kuala Lumpur.

After a quick breakfast, we set off for Melaka, stopping briefly at a service station along the way. Wonderful mangoes, already cut up – a dream come true.

After 3.5 hours, we reached Melaka. There wasn't much to see along the way except palm oil plantations. Now it's time for a tourist cruise on the Melaka River.

There is a red square in the old town centre, and the buildings date back to the Dutch era. This is also where you will find the rickshaw drivers, who are always trying to outdo each other with their decorated rickshaws.

The city can't really agree on the spelling, sometimes it's Malaka, sometimes Melaka. In the chocolate shop, Raaj meets fans who, of course, don't miss the opportunity to take a photo with him. In the meantime, we stock up on biscuits from home.

Now we head to the Swiss Heritage Hotel, which we chose because it is conveniently located in the city centre. Well, it's just about OK for one night. The only thing that's really true is the "heritage" part. We rest for a while and then continue on to the Portuguese quarter, have a beer on the riverside and then go to Wild Coriander for dinner. We get a nice table because Raaj has been recognised again.
