So far it has felt like a long holiday, as we were still travelling with our luggage. Of course we've already bought a few things and it's already felt really good. But now that all our things are here, it feels like home.
But first things first, we were at customs on Wednesday and nothing was clear yet. Yes, the ship will probably arrive today and then it will be a week before they deliver, was the tenor to the question of when the eagerly awaited container will arrive. Well, late Friday afternoon the phone rang, the import manager was on the line and told us that the container would be delivered tomorrow at 09:00. Joy reigns! That then changed slightly. At 10:40 it was time for the small articulated lorry to bring our 20-foot container directly to our door. A long journey comes to an end. Packed ready for sea in Tuggen, transported to the warehouse in Schlieren and stored for a year, then loaded into the container, sent to Rotterdam and from there shipped by container ship to Port Louis, cleared through customs, loaded onto the articulated lorry and carried into the house. And after about 9 weeks, the journey was over.
What a moment, Markus had to briefly compare the serial number of the seal with the papers and then rattle the thing away and open sesame!
So there it is, everything we have.
Yay, Sylvia's sewing machines, a really big TV, the Big Green Egg, everything Markus needs for cooking. The exercise bike, well, we didn't really miss it.
Quickly breaking away the wedged slats with the goose foot to block the goods and off we go with the living room cupboard. Sylvia had the task of ticking off the 106 packages and calling out to the movers which room the goods should go to. After a good 2.5 hours, everything was in the right place and the protective film was removed. The removal companies did a great job and everything arrived safely. We started unpacking and realised that everything was still in the same condition as when we packed it. How great is that, we are delighted. Many thanks to Mr Naumann from the Swiss Moving Service AG and the local haulage company SDI for the professional handling. Now there's a lot of work to do until everything is unpacked and taken care of again. But we have time.
