It wasn't possible to finish the posts; there was always so much going on or the connection was poor. Now a break from diving is forcing us to take a break. Markus has an ear infection again.
Our itinerary from Johor Bahru to Penang (George Town)

So we can tell you all about our experiences in Malaysia. Johor Bahru is located right next to Singapore Island and is connected by a bridge. The city is also very large by our standards and has 1.7 million inhabitants. The driver picked us up at the hotel at 9:30 sharp. The journey to the meeting point with Raaj, who was going to show us his country, was entertaining. We made good progress and first had to leave Singapore and enter Malaysia. Everything was done from the vehicle; we didn't have to get out. Raaj was already waiting for us at the glass temple.

There is always a lot going on at the border, but entering the country was easy; we just had to show our return flight ticket.
We'll stick that slogan on the car too...

Raaj is a busy Malaysian; he owns two cafés, is an actor, does wedding decorations and also takes tourists on trips in between. We got on very well right from the start.

We saw a lot on the first day and arrived at our hotel in the afternoon. Our room is on the 33rd floor; it is an apartment with a living room, kitchen and bedroom. You could fit four or five of these rooms into a hotel room in Singapore that costs twice as much. In the evening, Raaj picks us up again and we visit the night market, go for an after-work beer in a rooftop bar and have dinner at an Indian restaurant.

glass palace
Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman, a dream in glass, very impressive.

Gurdwara Sahib We have never seen an Indian Sikh temple either.

The Islamic Centre is right next to the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque, which belongs to the king.

Lunch at the Indian restaurant

There is a white church in Johor (Church of the Immaculate Conception) that became a running joke because we kept passing it and pretending we were seeing it for the first time. One of the many Chinese temples we saw.

Then we were driven to our apartment. We were already quite overwhelmed by all the new impressions, so the short break came at just the right time. The view was great; you could see the skyscrapers of Singapore on the horizon. Towards evening, we continued on our way, full of excitement.

First we visited the night market, well, it was still light out. Sylvia spotted some mangosteens, they were wonderful.

Independence from the British Empire is celebrated in Taman Merdeka Park.

We have another beer at the sky 26 rooftop bar with its fantastic view, followed by biryani, tandoori chicken, naan bread and daal at the Indian restaurant. We finish off with a nightcap at the pub around the corner. An eventful day comes to an end, we fall into bed exhausted and look forward to tomorrow.
