Uluru is on the agenda for the next two days. So we set off early in our RAV 4, as it's about 460 kilometres to the Ayers Rock Resort. The route is divided into two parts on the Stuart Highway 7 to the Erldunda service station and then on to the resort on the Lassetter HW4. With a few exceptions, the route is mainly straight ahead with nothing to the left or right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an emu farm at the petrol station about halfway along the route. After a short stop and some refreshments, we continue with a full tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suddenly a red rock appears out of nowhere, we stop at the viewpoint and then the all-clear - it's Mount Conner, but we like it too.

Then we arrive at the Lost Camel Hotel. A quick refreshment and then it's off to the heliport. We first fly to the Kata Tjuta massif and then to Uluru. It is very impressive to see these two rocks in the middle of nowhere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\t

It soon becomes evening and there is this Field of Light, a light installation with a view of Uluru. 50,000 lamps that change colour, plus a full moon and a starry sky - it really doesn't get any better than this.

In the morning we go to the viewpoint, we are almost alone with the best view of Uluru. It has never been so quiet, not a sound disturbs us. Then we make our way back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The way back is relaxed and we really only have 10 vehicles in our lane on the 460 kilometres. One more thing about the road, there are signs indicating the water level on the road, which is up to 2 metres high!
Luckily it was dry, we googled pictures when it wasn't.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
