greiner.mu is a private, non-commercial website of Markus Greiner. We do not use visitor analysis, advertising tracking or personalized advertising. Personal data is only processed to the extent that this is technically necessary for the functions offered.
1. Hosting and Server Logs
When the website is accessed, the web server processes technically necessary connection data. This may include, in particular, IP address, date and time, page or file accessed, HTTP status, amount of data transferred, referrer and browser/device information.
This data is used for the secure and reliable operation of the website and for error analysis.
2. Contact form
Name, e-mail address and message can be transmitted via the contact form.
The request is forwarded to us by e-mail and is not additionally stored as a contact request in the WordPress database.
To protect against automated abuse, the form uses technical checks and a short-term rate limit. The IP address is not permanently stored as a raw value for this purpose.
3. Comments
When using the comment function, WordPress processes the entered comment data as well as IP address and browser information, among other things, for technical reasons.
If the appropriate option is selected, WordPress can set convenience cookies so that name, email address and website do not have to be re-entered in a later comment.
No Gravatar service is loaded automatically.
4. Translations
German is the original language of greiner.mu.
If English or French content is required, German content can be transferred to Microsoft Azure Translator on the server side. The generated translation is then stored on greiner.mu so that the same content does not have to be translated again every time the page is accessed.
The Azure Translator resource used is located in the Switzerland North region.
5. External Videos
Videos from YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive are not automatically loaded when a page is accessed.
First, a local notice or placeholder appears. Only when the visitor consciously activates the video is a connection to the respective provider established. In the process, data, in particular the IP address and technical browser information, can be transmitted to this provider.
For YouTube, youtube-nocookie.com is used as far as technically possible.
6. Maps and Fonts
The world map and the travel maps are displayed with locally provided map and software data. MapLibre, PMTiles, the required OpenStreetMap-based map data and the fonts used are supplied by greiner.mu itself.
Therefore, when a map or font is displayed normally, no connection to external map or font providers is established.
7. “Belle Mare” protected area
The “Belle Mare” area is password-protected. Visitors do not need their own user account for this.
The calendar displayed there is retrieved from a shared iCloud calendar on the server side and cached. The private calendar link is not transmitted to the browser. The calendar view is read-only.
WordPress uses a technically necessary cookie for password protection.
8. Registration
The WordPress login is intended exclusively for the operators of the website. WordPress uses technically necessary cookies for authentication and settings when logging in.
Public registration is not possible.
9. Cookies and local storage
Normal public pages of greiner.mu do not require any tracking or advertising cookies.
Cookies can be used in particular for the password-protected area, WordPress login and – after appropriate selection – for the convenience function for comments.
greiner.mu does not use its own visitor profiling or analysis of user behaviour.
10. External links
The mere display of a page does not establish a connection to the target provider by a normal external link. Only when clicking on it does the visitor leave greiner.mu and the data protection regulations of the respective provider apply.
