In the Lonely Planet travel guide from the east coast it said that it would be worthwhile to rent a houseboat in Mallacoota. Well, they are right, it is beautiful. We had never rented a boat before, apart from a pedal boat and now a 15m long houseboat. After a short briefing we started. A map with the 10 different jetty’s gives an overview and then there are also buoy places to moor. We decide on the CEMETERY BIGHT JETTY, after about 1 hour of driving, we arrive at the jetty. After the mooring maneuver, the boat and the jetty are still intact, worked quite well.

It has a large jetty, a picnic area, two fireplaces and further in the forest an outhouse.
Now we are thirsty for the time being and there is an aperitif, which we have now earned.
Lunch is somehow cancelled, so we are already hungry, there is the Australian national dish BURGER????. Ok we never got it like that… toasted bread from the bakery, curry cream cheese, the meat refined with some whisky at the end, crispy bacon, ketchup and apple with onions, that was something. At sunset there is nothing to say, look at the pictures.
The morning after
Well, the night was not so warm with 6°C, we had to move a little closer together. So in the morning we had a warming tea. Then we turned the boat, our seat now has a lake view and we decide to spend Sunday here and head for a new place tomorrow.
Monday
After breakfast, there was fried egg and toast from the grill, then it’s time to cast off, we drive to Gravelly Point. It is a floating jetty, the mooring maneuver works well and we can tie the boat firmly (keep the rope short) It’s all a matter of practice, we are all alone in the bay again, no wonder in winter there are almost no tourists here. There are chops and zucchini, this grill plate can do something and the cook has done it quite well. It was again a cold night and we drive back to the jetty where we return the boat in one piece. Then we continue, along the coast to Narooma.
You have to make the sound of the video very loud, then you won’t hear anything like us… ????
