With the Kuranda Scenic Railway the journey leaves punctually from Cairns station, as always everything is very well organized, you have to leave that to the Australians, everything is always well organized. The route is 37 km long, with a difference in altitude of 328 m. Most guests get on in Freshwater. It goes with many curves and tunnels to Kuranda. On the way there is a stop at Barron Falls, there is not much water, but we had nice weather in the last few days. There is a lot to do in Kuranda, we decide to go to the Butterfly Park, it turned out to be a good decision. While strolling through the many shops, Sylvia buys a new hat, see for yourself, we like it. The gondola takes us 7.5 km, with 2 stops over the tops of the rainforest back to Smithfield. From there the transfer bus takes us back to the train station in Cairns. We only had to give the license plate and could drive out of the parking garage for free. The license plates are recorded at the entrance, the first three hours cost nothing, then you can pay at the machine and the barrier opens because the license plate is read, that’s how it works! No fiddling with punch cards or something.
