Soon one of the most exciting trips we have planned so far will begin for us. From our home in Mauritius , the route first takes us to Kuala Lumpur before we start our real adventure: a four-week journey across China – from the imperial city of Beijing to the futuristic skyline of Hong Kong.
In total, our journey will take 33 days, take us through more than 20 cities and regions and cover over 28,000 kilometers . We will travel on the Yangtze River by plane, high-speed trains, cars and even a cruise ship.
Start in Kuala Lumpur
The first section takes us from Mauritius to Kuala Lumpur. Not entirely voluntarily, because we actually wanted to travel via Dubai, thanks to Trump, we are now allowed to stay in KL for some time to get in the mood for the trip and experience the skyline of the Malaysian capital with the famous Petronas Twin Towers . We have already been here, but it is always fascinating how it works here. Not to forget, you can stuff yourself with dumplings .
From there we continue to Beijing, where our big China route begins.
From Beijing to the heart of Chinese history
The trip starts in the Chinese capital Beijing. There we will visit some of the most famous places in the country:
- Tiananmen Square
- the Forbidden City
- the Summer Palace
- and of course the Great Wall at Mutianyu
After several days in Beijing, we will take the bullet train to Xi’an, where one of the most impressive archaeological wonders in the world awaits us: the Terracotta Army.
High up: Tibet
From Xi’an we fly on to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, at an altitude of over 3,650 meters.
There we will see, among other things:
- the majestic Potala Palace
- the holy Jokhang Temple
- traditional monasteries such as Drepung and Sera
Afterwards, a spectacular drive through the Tibetan mountains takes us over the holy lake Yamdrok Tso to Shigatse.
Pandas, mountains and megacities
After Tibet, we will descend again to Chengdu, where we will visit the famous giant pandas .
From there, the route continues to:
- the giant Buddha statue of Leshan
- the sacred mountain Mount Emei
- and then to the futuristic city of Chongqing.
Yangtze River Cruise
In Chongqing we board a cruise ship and sail for several days on the Yangtze River through the spectacular Three Gorges.
During this river trip we will experience:
- Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge
- the tributary Shennv Stream
- and finally the gigantic Three Gorges Dam project.
Avatar landscapes in Zhangjiajie
After the river journey, the route takes us to Zhangjiajie, where one of the most spectacular landscapes in China is located.
The up to 200-meter-high pinnacles of Zhangjiajie National Park served as inspiration for the floating mountains in the movie Avatar. Here we will visit, among others:
- Yuanjiajie
- Tianzi Mountain
- Bailong Elevator
- Tianmen Mountain with its glass skywalk.
Modern metropolises and classic gardens
We then travel by high-speed train to Shanghai, the largest city in China.
There we can expect:
- the Shanghai Tower
- The Historical Bund
- Nanjing Road shopping street
- and the classic Yuyuan Garden.
From Shanghai, you’ll continue to the famous garden city of Suzhou and then to the historic Tongli Water Town .
The legendary Huangshan Mountains
One of the scenic highlights of our trip will be the visit to the Yellow Mountains (Huangshan).
These mountains are famous for:
- bizarre granite peaks
- wind-shaped pines
- Seas of fog
- spectacular sunrises.
We will even spend a night directly on the mountain .
West Lake and Karst Landscapes
Afterwards, the route leads to Hangzhou, where we take a boat ride on the famous West Lake .
We will then fly to Guilin, from where we will take a river cruise on the Li River to Yangshuo – one of the most beautiful landscapes in China with spectacular karst mountains.
Another highlight will be the impressive Longji Rice Terraces .
Final in Hong Kong
Finally, we travel to Hong Kong by high-speed train.
Here we spend several days, exploring the city with a private tour and enjoying the view from Victoria Peakover the famous Victoria Harbour.
We spend the last night at the legendary Peninsula Hotel before returning to Mauritius via Kuala Lumpur.
