Day 3 Tia'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven

Tia’anmen Square measures 880m x 500m, it is a huge area, you can well imagine how these parades work here. But first you have to come in, the controls are strict, everything is searched and scanned. In China, the passport is the ticket for everything, the tickets are registered on the passport.

The mausoleum of Mao tse tung is also located here, but is currently being renovated.

In the middle stands the monument of the folk heroes and is 38m high. It was built from 1952 to 1958.

Behind it is the  Congress building.

The flagpole in front of it weighs 7 tons, is 32.6 m high and consists of  4 parts.

There is an underpass to Ti’anmen, the Imperial Palace, from the square you can see the red building, the Imperial Palace. The size of the facilities is overwhelming, in the high season like today there are up to 80,000 visitors per day who are smuggled through, in the end we had to scan the passport 3 times and the luggage as well. Each time I had to unpack my tripod.

The picture of Mau tse tung, which is emblazoned on the building, weighs 1.5 tons, measures 6 m x 4.5 m and is renewed annually in September. Because on November 1st it was Mr. Mau’s birthday.

Through the red gate you come to the forbidden city.

There are 9,999 buildings in the Forbidden City. Of course, we can’t see them all. But there are a lot of people queuing up at the entrance.

The forbidden city is big and when you go through the next gate it gets even bigger and at the next gate even more and more, it takes 2 to 3 days to see the whole city. We only scratched the surface.

A short snack before we go to the Temple of Heaven. Peking noodles have to be sometimes. And before that, a meat cake, again very tasty.

Temple of Heaven

Markus does not have to pay admission to the Temple of Heaven, from 60 it is free.

Again, space without end. But no house near the temple of heaven must be higher than the temple itself.

Here, sacrifices, rituals for good harvests and order and harmony on earth were performed. It was about the connection between heaven and earth.

Now we need a little break, we rest in the hotel, or we try to upload pictures again.

In the evening we go to the shopping center, the restaurant variety is enormous and we also got delicious food again. Kung Bao chicken, pork with chestnuts and fried rice.
