Today we drive with Sahra to Suzhou. The drive takes 1.5 hours. She loves this city very much and tells us enthusiastically about it. Among other things, Suzho is also called the Venice of the East and is a well-known silk city. There is no airport in Suzhou, but it can be reached quickly by express train from Shanghai.
First we visit the modern museum, and there the hall “Memories of Suzhou Crafts”. How finely the different materials were processed. Jade, ivory, bamboo or wood. The exhibition as well as the exhibition rooms are very appealing and we like them very much.
On the way to the garden of the humble official we walk along Ping Jiang Street. Now the similarity to Venice becomes clear, there are lots of small canals and bridges along the Kaiser Canal. There are only small houses here, the most colorful and diverse shops invite locals as well as tourists to stroll. In an old tea house there is something to drink and in a small restaurant delicious local food. Soon we stand in front of the entrance of the said garden and we wave it off. There are not only many people queuing for a ticket, but also a lot of students are willing to go into the garden.
This is too much for us and decide to visit the museum of the silk factory. We are very nicely guided by an employee. The caterpillars eat the leaves of the mulberry and then pupate with their silk thread. Always impressive how extremely strong such a thread is. Of course we also come into a sales room and yes, we have also bought something. Among other things, a duvet, fantastic. Not much more will be revealed *wink* Slowly it is getting tight with the suitcase.
Now drinking coffee together again and treating ourselves to something sweet would please all 3 of us. Sarah has the right road in mind and we get off at the Seven Mile Shantang. Here, too, everyone enjoys the spring sun on Sunday. There is so much to see, it is hard to process. We are also sitting outside with our coffees and Markus has brought us a local waffle with sweet bean paste.
We watch the colorful hustle and bustle. Here, too, traditional robes with the matching hairstyle, jewelry and make-up are worn by the ladies. Every now and then a cossplay outfit equipped with so many loving details, amazing. Now to the hotel and tonight we explore the pedestrian zone.
You could really become balabala, don’t make the sound too loud in the video ???? ????
There is still something to eat, the legend of sweet & sour, which is only available in Europe, could be refuted for the second time. The white fish was good, the information about the many fine bones was still helpful, but there were too many for us.
