Blenheim is the starting point in the Marlborough region and there are many large wineries here. The very large steel vats take the charm out of a winery. It's well organised here, there's not much going on, they all want to take you to the wineries. On the journey to Greymouth, we drove past vines left and right for almost an hour, almost like in the Bordeaux region.

Our first earthquake at around 11 pm with a magnitude of 4.1 at a distance of 18 kilometres and a depth of 31 kilometres was felt very clearly. It shook briefly and violently.

The weather is better on Sunday and we drive to the Marlborough Sounds on the Queen Charlotte Drive from Havelock to Picton. Very nice views of the sounds if you move around a bit.

In Picton the ferry leaves for Wellington, we stop for a foccacia sandwich and a chat at Pesche's, a Bernese who has been here since 1997.

A journey into the past

After our trip to Fiji, our travel plans include a trip to the Cook Islands, so far so good. We fly out on 29 June and two hours later we are already there. But the flight takes almost 4 hours. Something is wrong here. After checking several times, it is clear where the error lies. Rarotonga is 22 hours behind the New Zealand time. Aha, there was something about a date line, we should have paid more attention at school. So we need a night from 28 to 29 June in New Zealand and then again on Rarotonga, where the stay starts again on 28 June. On the way back it's the same again, in the other direction as we're travelling into the future.
