From Blenheim on the east coast to Greymouth on the west coast, including the two places we wanted to visit, it's a 5-hour drive, so we set off first thing in the morning. The weather is ideal, there is no traffic and we make good progress. New Zealand has a lot of single-lane bridges, but it's fine.

We make our first stop at Maruia Falls, which looks a bit like the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen.

We continue on winding roads to the west coast and there to the Pancake Rocks and yes, they do look a bit like layered pancakes.

Greymouth is very well laid out and the local brewery serves good food. Our accommodation has a sea view and is in a quiet location just outside the town centre.
