The connecting road from Christchurch to Greymouth leads over Arthur's Pass. The TranzAlpine Train also runs through here. From Greymouth it is 100 kilometres, at the beginning mainly along the Taramakau River. Towards the end there is a pass with a 17% gradient.

At the viewpoint to the Otira Viaduct, there are very cheeky Kea mountain parrots.

After the pass, we drive a little further to the Weimakariri River, the view of the mountains, almost like home.

View of Mt Murchison 2408m, the river bed is huge.

Back at Artur's Pass Station we walk along the river or uphill, we decide to walk to the Devils Punchbowl waterfall.

The village church has a view of a small waterfall, we continue to the riverbed of the Otira River.

The waterfall is quite high up, there are a few steps up to the viewing platform and, as always, the path is well maintained.

Markus moaned about his cold hands for so long until Sylvia knitted him some great gloves. They keep him nice and warm.

We head back to Greymouth.
