We've been on the island for a few days now and are enjoying it. The island is really great, there is one bus, or rather two, one travelling clockwise and the other against it. It takes about an hour to travel around the whole island. Saturday is a big market day in the town. Town is a bit of an exaggeration. Sylvia went to the hairdresser, her hair from Fiji turned out really well and we went snorkelling and diving.
Snorkelling is right on the doorstep and the diving is also good, but we are spoilt.
There were turtles, reef fish, huge hard corals, a school of eagle rays and much more. The passages are also impressive, these are gaps in the reef where you can go out, the waves were up to 3 metres high, Sylvia's inner ear didn't quite like it.

Market day

We take the bus that stops when you wave, because it's market day and it's well filled.

The food is very good on Rarotonga

We sometimes eat out or cook in our accommodation, the ingredients are fresh and come from the supermarket garden, which is only a few steps away, and the beef is top quality from New Zealand.

Sylvia's new socks...

are modelled on the colours of the hibiscus flower and Markus had to prove himself as a wool holder.

Snorkelling

You can do this directly from the beach, with wonderfully clear water and always something to see.

Diving

The diving was impressive, there was something of everything, huge hard corals, eagle rays, a wreck at 3-5 metres and much more. The visibility wasn't great so no photos. And yes, we had to do at least 5 dives before we could get on the boat in Australia. We're diving on the Great Barrier Reef at the beginning of September and we're really looking forward to it.

We are now on the island until 19 July and then fly to Auckland and then on to Melbourne. From there we'll explore the east coast and make various stops until we rent a houseboat in Mallacoota, then we'll continue to the Blue Mountains until we stay in Sydney for 10 days.
