For the next two days, Uluru is on the list. So we started early with our RAV 4, as it is about 460 km to Ayers Rock Resort. The route splits into two parts on Stuart Highway 7 to the Erldunda service area with gas station and then on to the resort on the Lassetter HW4. With a few exceptions, the route is mainly straight ahead and left and right actually nothing at all.
At the gas station after about half of the route there is still an emu farm. After a short stop and a refreshment, we continue with a full tank.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, such a red rock appears, we stop at the viewpoint and then give the all-clear, it’s Mount Conner, but we also like it.
Then we arrive at the Lost Camel Hotel. A quick refreshment and then we go to the heliport. We fly first to the Kata Tjuta massif and then to Uluru. It is very impressive in the middle of nowhere the two rocks.
Evening quickly arrives and there is this Field of Light, a light installation with a view of Uluru. 50,000 lamps that change colors, plus a full moon and starry sky, more is really not possible.
In the morning we go to the viewpoint, we are almost alone with the best view of Uluru. It has never been so quiet anywhere, no noise disturbs. Then we make our way back.
The way back is relaxed and we really only have 10 vehicles on our track on the 460 km. Something else about the road, there are signs that show the water level on the road that are up to 2meters high!
Luckily it was dry, we googled pictures if it wasn’t.
