From Wellington to Whanganui it is only about 200 km drive. On the way we stop at the Kapiti Chocolate Factory, well it was not a chocolate factory but Belgian couverture is processed.
Kapiti Beach with Kapiti Island in the background.
Castlecliff Beach and views of Whanganui from the pier.
Mount Taranaki
Or Mt. Egmont, an extinct volcano, 2,518 meters high and active for the last time in 1854. The impressive thing is that it stands in a wide plain and is clearly visible from everywhere. And yes, we caught a fantastic day.
The road leads to the Stratford Plateau Lookout at 1172m, it was pretty fresh up here. The view of the plain and the volcano is really very beautiful.

With the zoom, even the top of Mount Ruapehu, 130 km away, can be seen.

Tomorrow it will be another 340 km to the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, we are very close by on a farm.
Heya – ist ein rauhes Land/Klima aber scheint wunderschön zu sein 🙂
Grüsst mir aber auch Gandalf nicht nur die Hobbits 😉
