Early in the morning we fly to Darwin and then we are at the rental company of the motorhomes before noon. We took the newer ones, well before we could drive off, a lock had to be changed, the reversing camera is now Sylvia, because the internal one doesn’t work and while driving we still notice that a sealing rubber flutters in the wind, but otherwise everything is fine…
First we go shopping, the shopping cart is quite full, where are we supposed to stow it all? With good will, everything is stowed away and the journey can start. Fortunately, Markus had the opportunity to drive the delivery vehicles several times at Wüst, so driving the camper is not difficult for him and left-hand traffic has not been an issue for a long time.
We only drive a short distance to our first place at the Oasis Campground, where we can familiarize ourselves with the camping and the facilities, the Powerd Site has electricity and water so we are supplied with everything. First there is spaghetti bolognese, which was good, because somehow we had missed lunch. The wine was sumptuous and we went to bed early.
After breakfast we make our way to the Kakadu National Park. The area of Ubirr is the destination, on the way we look at the Mamakula Wettlands. The vastness here is impressive, far and wide no people. A look at the statistics shows why! In Switzerland live 216 people per km2, in the Northern Territory live just 0.16 people per km2, which is just 1% of the population of Australia.
