It’s been exactly one year since we set off, with a plan, but we weren’t quite comfortable with it. Was that really it? Do we no longer have to work? Can we just go where we want now? Will it all work out? Questions upon questions…
We explored Mauritius for almost two months, we liked it very much and even a prostate operation by Markus did not deter us. We said that Mauritius is bearable and flew to Australia with a direct flight.
The first impressions in Perth were overwhelming and also the visit to a football game impressed us. The visit to the red center with the flight around Uluru and so on… more is in the article about Australia and is already told ….

After traveling around with the camper in the sparsely populated north for two weeks, we decided that we would not travel any further. It would have been too much, the experience has to be processed first. So we return to Mauritius, from October 2nd we were back in Mauritius and dealt with settling on the island.

Then there was also the meeting with Birgit and Uwe and later with Mike and Linda, nice that we know each other and can deepen our friendship. Actually, it feels like we’ve known each other for a long time.

Many clarifications later we decided that we wanted to stay. Now we had to look for a place to stay, not so easy. A large selection, but also enormous price differences make the search tedious, we found a property on the Homegate-like platform that we liked very much, so we contacted Geraldine and Samuel. Unfortunately already taken… and it came as it had to come, Samuel asked after a few days if we were still interested. Fortunately, the potential tenant did not pay. We were totally thrilled after the viewing. So we signed a rental contract. Now it was clear, we wanted to move to Mauritius.

How was that… You will certainly miss the work and the stress, we didn’t miss anything from all this. Of course we missed our family and friends very much, but we knew we would see everyone again in December and January. Thanks to the modern means of communication, we saw and heard everyone again in between. Thank you very much, we have and will look forward to all your contacts. So you were not so far away!

We go on, of course we need a bank account, Hartmut Sieper let his network play and we got to bank accounts and a supervisor without much paperwork. We need a means of transport, without further ado we arranged a test drive with the Haval 6, which has been evaluated for some time. And bought, delivery at the airport when we come back, how cool is that?

Retired Permit is the name of the residence permit we are striving for. This requires many documents from Switzerland. This could all be done online after all. A blood, urine and stool test with a doctor’s visit was also necessary. Everything was done and sent when we arrived in Switzerland.

Then an unforgettable home holiday with many encounters and hugs, which did us a lot of good. We got a lot to eat and drink. Now some restraint is required. Fortunately, we will see some of them again before our next home holiday.
In the Rösslibar we meet Fritz with his work colleague, he explains to him loudly that these are now the two who live in Mauritius. Crazy, we can’t believe it ourselves.

After the odyssey already described, we get our vehicle and have now moved into our villa in Belle Mare or more precisely Point de Flacq. What is still missing is the permit, but that should be done in a few days. We are already quite well set up, but more about that in a later post and then we can start planning the next trip.

We are very grateful that we were able to experience all this without much difficulty. We also thank you for your support and encouragement when we had something to tell again.

Sincerely Sylvia and Markus
