Day 25: Mount Huangshan โ€“ Train to Hangzhou

We can watch the sunrise from our bed, everything is shrouded in thick fog and it is still raining. After breakfast we make our way to the cable car with our guide. The rain has subsided in the meantime and there are bright spots and lo and behold we still see something of the yellow mountains.

This is how it is written in today’s travel program: After a short drive, you will reach Yixian County โ€“ a place praised as the Garden of Eden on Earth. There you will visit the two fantastic villages of Hongcun and Xidi. They are considered by many Western scientists and experts to be a living museum of traditional Chinese dwellings. The Oscar-winning film “Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon” has just been filmed in the village of Hongcun.

A lot of filigree woodwork can be seen on the old buildings, some of them made of stone. The buildings are all inhabited and everyone tries to sell something somehow. Despite the rather modest weather, we stroll through the narrow streets.

We are cold and hungry, so we let them take us to a restaurant. it tasted very good, there was egg with tomatoes, fried rice and chicken well seasoned with chestnuts, which are popular here in the area.

We continue to the second, even older village that survived the Cultural Revolution, actually very similar to the first.

Now we are back on the train and are quite exhausted, the almost 1000 steps of yesterday and today have made us tired. We hope that the transfer will work out well and that we will be in the hotel soon. Tomorrow it will be comfortable, in the morning we will take a boat ride.
