From Blenheim on the east coast to Greymouth on the west coast it is about 5 hours to drive, with the two places we still wanted to see, so we set off in the morning. The weather is ideal, there is no traffic and we make good progress. In New Zealand there are many single-lane bridges but it works well.

The first stop is at the Maruia Falls, which looks a bit like the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen.

We continue on winding roads to the west coast and there to the Pancake Rock’s and yes they look a bit like layered pancakes.

Greymouth is very clear, in the local brewery there is good food. Our accommodation has sea views and is quietly located just outside.
